Are you planning a layover in Casablanca and wondering how to make the most of your time in just over 16 hours? Casablanca, a city bursting with vibrant culture, mesmerizing architecture, and rich history, offers plenty of gems to explore. From bustling markets to serene coastal views, here are the top five must-see places to experience during your short stay in this enchanting city.

My Tip: I arrived in Casablanca at 9 a.m. and stayed at the conveniently located Oum Palace Hotel and Spa. To save time and make the most of the day, I hired a driver to take me to all these fantastic spots.

1. Hassan II Mosque

Start your adventure with a visit to the breathtaking Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world. The intricate architecture and stunning details of this religious structure will leave you in awe. Take a guided tour to learn about the history and significance or simply take a walk around it yourself like I did, and don't miss the beautiful view of the mosque against the backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean.

Pro Tip: If you'd like to see the mosque's interior, avoid prayer times when it’s closed to the public. Guided tours are usually available between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., but hours may vary during Ramadan, so check ahead.

Enjoy a stroll along the waterfront, savor fresh seafood at one of the beachfront restaurants, or simply unwind and soak in the tranquil ambiance of this popular destination.

4. Mohammed V Square

This stunning public square serves as a vibrant hub of activity, showcasing the city's rich history and modernity. The square is surrounded by colonial-era buildings, including the Wilaya of Casablanca, which features beautiful architectural details that reflect the city's French influence. The square buzzes with locals and tourists alike gathering to enjoy the open space. The lush gardens and fountains, provide a refreshing view, making it an ideal spot for people-watching, strolls, or taking in the sights and sounds of the city. You can also feed the birds and take pictures with them.

5. Rick's Café

Complete your Casablanca experience with a visit to Rick's Café, a restaurant inspired by the classic film "Casablanca." I didn't know about the movie but I was told that this cafe is a recreation of the bar in the movie, reminiscent of the Hollywood golden era. Make sure you make a reservation before going.
